Description SchoolWorks is partnering with Denver Public Schools to strengthen early literacy in schools identified for improvement in English Language arts and Reading. We are seeking qualified candidates interested in serving as Early Literacy Coaches to support school-based teams in improving instructional quality and outcomes in Grades K–3.
Coaches will work collaboratively with school leadership teams, literacy coaches, and district partners to implement targeted supports aligned to early reading development, with an emphasis on reading comprehension, data-informed instruction, and sustainable improvement systems.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Establish strong relationships with each school’s administration and literacy coach to ensure alignment and readiness for coaching.
Review initial screening results and classroom observation data to identify instructional priorities and growth areas.
Design and implement a customized coaching plan tailored to each school’s literacy goals and context.
Provide bi-weekly, on-site coaching sessions to support the Instructional Leadership Team (ILT) and school leader in improving literacy instruction and monitoring progress.
Facilitate bi-weekly, one-hour virtual coaching calls with ILT members and school leaders to reinforce priorities and sustain momentum between visits.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date coaching documentation and notes within the designated digital platform.
Submit concise weekly summary reports to the client’s literacy team and the SchoolWorks Project Manager highlighting progress, trends, and next steps.
Collect and analyze trend data across schools to inform adjustments, surface best practices, and guide continuous improvement efforts.
Desired Knowledge and Skills
Expertise in early literacy instruction and development, including phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
Experience supporting Multilingual Learners and English Language Learners (MLL/ELLs), including knowledge of language acquisition, scaffolding strategies, and integration of literacy supports for diverse linguistic backgrounds.
Demonstrated success coaching educators and school leaders to improve reading outcomes for early learners.
Knowledge of effective ELA instructional materials and evidence-based literacy practices.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills across diverse school contexts.
Commitment to equity and culturally responsive instruction.
Ability to use data to drive instructional decision-making and measure impact.
Qualifications
Minimum of 5 years of experience in literacy instruction, school-based coaching, or leadership focused on early-grade ELA improvement.
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in education, literacy, or a related field preferred.
