Multi-Year School Improvement

SchoolWorks® partners with schools and districts in multi-year engagements focused on achieving measurable, sustained improvement. Our approach is grounded in the belief that lasting change requires more than a plan—it requires aligned systems, strong leadership, and disciplined implementation over time.

Through a structured, four-phase model—Assess, Plan, Achieve, and Monitor—SchoolWorks provides a progressive suite of services that builds the capacity of school leaders and instructional staff while activating key levers of change across leadership, accountability, and instruction.

Our Approach

Phase 1: Assess

SchoolWorks begins each engagement with a comprehensive School Quality Review (SQR) to establish a clear, evidence-based understanding of the school’s current state. Using the SchoolWorks Quality Criteria, our experienced review team examines the effectiveness of school practices across culture, organization, and academics.

What the Review Includes:

• Two-day on-site review conducted by trained educators
• Analysis of key documents (curriculum, assessments, professional development, student data)
• Classroom observations using a standardized protocol
• Interviews with school leaders, teachers, students, and stakeholders
• Evidence-based findings aligned to defined performance criteria

Following the visit, SchoolWorks provides a verbal debrief for school leadership, followed by a detailed written report outlining strengths, challenges, and key findings.

Phase 2: Plan

Building on the findings of the School Quality Review, SchoolWorks facilitates School Improvement Planning to develop a focused, actionable improvement plan.

Planning Workshops Include:

• Engagement with school leadership, board members, and key stakeholders
• Review and refinement of the school’s success statement and priorities
• Development or refinement of a one- or multi-year action plan
• Establishment of clear benchmarks and implementation timelines

The resulting plan serves as a strategic roadmap, with defined goals, measurable outcomes, and structures for accountability.

Phase 3: Achieve

SchoolWorks provides sustained, hands-on implementation support to ensure that plans lead to meaningful results. This phase focuses on building internal capacity while maintaining momentum and accountability.

Leadership Coaching

SchoolWorks delivers ongoing Leadership Coaching for school leaders and leadership teams through a combination of on-site sessions and virtual check-ins.

Coaching May Include:

• Facilitating and strengthening Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
• Conducting and debriefing classroom observations
• Using instructional and student data to guide decision-making
• Planning and improving staff and leadership meetings
• Conducting learning walks and providing actionable feedback
• Prioritizing leadership actions to maximize impact

Instructional Supports

To strengthen instructional practice at scale, SchoolWorks implements a structured framework for building instructional excellence:

Key Components:

1. Administrator Training: A one-day, hands-on training introduces leaders to the principles of high-quality instruction and the classroom observation. Participants practice observing and rating instruction to ensure reliability.
2. Data Collection and Analysis: Leaders conduct ongoing classroom observations, generating actionable data on instructional practice. SchoolWorks supports leaders in analyzing trends and using data to inform professional development.
3. Teacher Training: Teachers participate in targeted training to understand the indicators of effective instruction and what high-quality practice looks like in action.
4. Ongoing Professional Development: SchoolWorks delivers targeted PD sessions aligned to observed needs, helping teachers refine practice and implement evidence-based strategies.

Phase 4: Monitor

Sustained improvement requires continuous Improvement Plan Monitoring. SchoolWorks uses the School Quality Review framework to track progress over time and ensure accountability. In multi-year engagements, monitoring includes annual follow-up site visits and progressive reports.
