SchoolWorks and the Wisconsin Resource Center for Charter Schools Support Quality Authorizing in Wisconsin

For the past year, SchoolWorks has been honored to serve as a partner to the Wisconsin Resource Center for Charter Schools (WRCCS) to develop and provide professional development resources for charter school authorizers in order to strengthen and elevate their practices.

SchoolWorks has recently provided need-based technical assistance to authorizers on behalf of both the Maryland State Department of Education and the Indiana Department of Education. In addition, the company has served as an external authorizer evaluator for the Ohio Department of Education and the Minnesota Department of Education, a charter application evaluator for the Louisiana Department of Education and the Rhode Island Department of Education, and a long-term partner in the facilitation of renewal site visits for the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The SchoolWorks team uses the knowledge and expertise gained through these engagements to create, refine, and disseminate customized technical assistance resources for Wisconsin authorizers.

In support of this effort, SchoolWorks’ Managing Director of Accountability, David Hartman, delivered live training for authorizers at the WRCCS annual conference in August, and has engaged directly with Wisconsin authorizers to provide one-on-one support.  In addition, David and the SchoolWorks team are in the process of developing a series of professional development online course modules, which will be available to the state’s authorizers at no cost through the WRCCS website.

Sarah Hackett, the Director of WRCCS, looks forward to the program’s evolution.

“Our goal has been to develop a comprehensive library of resources that supports Wisconsin authorizers in their role and reflects national best-practices of effective authorizing.  WRCCS has already made great strides in this area, and as we engage with more and more authorizers across the state, we will refine and enhance our tools and resources to meet evolving needs.  We look forward to continued support from SchoolWorks in connecting more Wisconsin authorizers to quality resources.”
